I Grew Up On A Farm-Molly’s Reviews

April 11th 2008

The Review

I Grew Up On A Farm, is an autobiographical account of the author’s life spent on a functioning farm in Middletown, New York during the 1950s. Written by author Alan Lewis and illustrated by artist Bob Fletcher I Grew Up On A Farm brings to life the author’s memories of a time shared by this reviewer and sadly lost to many today. I Grew Up On A Farm offers the reader a fascinating peek into farm life as experienced by much of America for a good part of the last century. And it offers a moment of reminisce for those who enjoy remembering their own childhood spent in much the manner as writer Lewis has captured.

Written in child friendly text and richly illustrated I Grew Up On A Farm brings the reader step by step with the writer as he gathers eggs, plays with his dog, gathers produce from the family garden for sale at a roadside booth. The reader is offered a glimpse into the work and fun to be found on a family farm. We see fishing down at the pond, taking care of chores and whiling away the long summer days with family and friends.

I particularly liked the artwork found in the work. Illustrated with black and white photographs expanded by illustrator Fletcher to full color drawings each page is a treat. I Grew Up On A Farm is a good-hearted tale of a time quickly vanishing from our country. Urban sprawl stretching further and further into areas where family farms once flourished

I took I Grew Up On A Farm to my fourth grade class room where it became an instant hit. We live in a rural portion of Oklahoma, however only one of the students actually lives ‘out in the country’. The kids were enthralled to listen to the tale and have taken turns reading the book to themselves since. We voted re the art work and our consensus is ‘the art work is great!’

I Grew Up On A Farm is a read to book for the younger set of 3 - 8s. It is a read with some help for the 8s and 9s and a read alone for most middle grades. The book provides an excellent opportunity for children to discuss life today as opposed to life a few years ago and to speculate about how life may change in the future.

I enjoy the book every bit as much as has my class, happy to recommend.

I Grew Up On A Farm is an excellent choice for the home pleasure library, the classroom book shelf, school library stacks and the homeschool reading list.

Adwords Consultant - Can You Afford the Fees

April 10th 2008

I am going to show you how you can have a personal adwords consultant that you can afford. Everybody and their grandmother wants to get into the Google Adwords affiliate business. There are scores of books on the internet that describe how simple it is to “Make Enormous Sums of Money with 15 Minutes of Work Each Day and From Then on Your Business is on Auto-Pilot”. Nothing could be further from the truth! Many people try adwords affiliate advertising and have one failed campaign after another. They burn a hole in their advertising pockets and give up. What should they do?

One alternative is to contact a professional Google AdWords Consultant. This may be an effective strategy for an existing business that is making a profit but most professional adwords consultants charge $100 to $250 an hour for a consultation on existing campaigns. To set up a new account prices can range between $1000 to $2500 plus ongoing monthly fees. This can be a good investment in the long run for someone who is more concerned with his or her core business than learning the adwords business. But if you are interested in learning the adwords affiliate business this simply won’t due. Some of the consultants will give Pay Per Click coaching but at $100 to $250 an hour the fees are outrageous.

In the brick and mortar world a businessperson can get involved with local organizations of retired businesspersons and get one on one advice. Many of these programs can be found through the better business bureau in your local area. A person can often find a mentor to help them through the process of setting up their business and monitoring the ongoing success or failure. The businessperson benefits from the years of experience accumulated by its members and advice is offered freely and without hesitation because there is no competition between the parties.

In the online world, someone interested in learning the adwords affiliate business has basically two options: 1) Read all the books available on the subject and learn by trial and error alone. Again, this can be a very daunting task and very costly. Most people usually give up after a couple months, 2) Read and learn as much as you can on your own but also try to emulate the offline brick and mortar model where one tries to find an adwords consultant as a mentor. The question then is where can you find an online mentor? The most similar online organization to the offline brick and mortar organization, is a forum of individuals who are trying to succeed in the Pay Per Click affiliate business. You can do a Google search using the following phrases and get a whole list of forums: affiliate marketing forums, affiliate marketing forum, forums affiliate marketing, forum affiliate marketing.

Most of the forums are free but you will find a few that will charge a nominal monthly fee to join. The fee-based forums usually are moderated and owned by someone who has expertise in the affiliate marketing business and is probably working it full time. The members are generally more helpful to newbies as the fee-based forums tend to be a more tightly knit group. If you want to find an adwords consultant to act as your mentor you’re more likely to find someone in the fee based forum. Regardless of which forum you join, at some point you need to participate in the forum in order to get to know the other members. It is only after trust is gained will someone be willing to help you. If you can find the right forum with an individual you click with, you may just find your adwords consultant and mentor. And the fee relative to $100 to $250 an hour is peanuts.

Anthony Pace is an affiliate marketer working to make online marketing a full time job within the next year. If you would like to learn more about what was discussed in this article, check out http://www.my-product-reviews.com/adwords_consultant

Other Peoples Homes (2) Elvis, Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee

April 8th 2008

In the words of Paul Simon, “I’m going to Graceland, Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee” and now I’ve been but, in my case, with a travelling companion several decades more than nine years old and a devoted fan of the “King of Rock and Roll”.

Since Elvis Presley’s death in 1977, Graceland, the house purchased by Elvis in 1957 and in whose grounds he is buried, has become a shrine to the memory of Elvis and a centre of pilgrimage for thousands of fans who visit every year.

Graceland was built on a hilly, heavily wooded thirteen-and-three-quarter-acre site on the two-lane Highway 51 connecting Memphis with Jackson, Mississippi, for a Dr. and Mrs. Thomas D. Moore. Over time the name “Graceland” came to refer specifically to the house but originally it applied to the entire area which was establish as a Hereford cattle farm in 1861, by S.E. Toof, the publisher of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. It was named after his daughter, Grace Toof. Ruth Moore, who built Graceland the house, was Grace’s niece who planned the house for her daughter, Ruth Marie, who played the harp and piano. Music seeped through it’s very foundations. The rooms were designed with an eye to future musical evenings and space was essential. A Commercial Appeal headline for Sunday, October 27th 1940 heralded the “Colonial Courtliness of Georgian Style Exemplified in Stately Graceland”. The home that has come to symbolise Elvis.

The house was opened to the public in 1982. I understand about 650,000 people a year pass through the front door. Graceland has become one of the five most visited home museums in the United States and in 1991 gained the honour of being placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Joining one of the many shuttle tours that operate from downtown Memphis, I, personally was prepared to be disillusioned. Would it all be hype and tasteless, but hey, forever curious about other peoples tastes and extravagances it was a ‘must do’ visit. Surrounded by fellow travellers, devoted Elvis fans, who have all come to see not only where Elvis lived by how he lived, the tour began.
